Well the Gallaghers are at it again! Season 7 is out as of Yesterday, and we could not be more thrilled!

But what a great show to point out some of the reasons why DNA Paternity Testing is so important. I mean, wouldn't you want to know if you were Frank's kid or not? Remember back when Monica came into the picture again during the second season? Yay for Ian! He isn't Franks! But Liam is? Well, you can't judge a book by it's cover, and that could not be more true when establishing paternity.

How the Gallaghers taught us about Paternity:

  • A Caucasian man can father an partially African American baby. How is this possible? Well, one the mom could be African American or partially African American. Otherwise, ancestry. Somewhere along the way there has to be some genomes of African American decent in the father's DNA. Liam and Frank are an example of this... That is if Monica is actually Liam's mom.. Never know with those Gallaghers!
  • Ian belongs to Frank's brother. Well, one of them. They never confirmed Ian's father's identity. That's ok. Frank will always be his dad. Fortunately/Unfortunately? The point is a DNA Paternity Test can tell you "You aren't the father" and give the child an idea of who the father might be if it's a relative of the man tested. If not, well one person has been been eliminated!
  • Don't take the last bullet point offensively, ladies. Most of you know who the dad is and you are just confirming it for tax purposes or child support. Debbie may have to go for this down the road. She sure is young to be doing this all on her own. But if Derek's parents are going to help out with Frannie, the checks shouldn't be going to Frank!

Well, here we go #Shameless fans.. Let's see what other examples of how paternity can impact one family in this season.
